| At first glance I thought this character was from Arkansas. But he looks more like an Aussie - check out the boomerang in his hand and the possible croc teeth in his hatband. The picture was borrowed from the Natures Guard official website. |
The status of this series is unclear at this time. The last time I heard any news on the project was in 2002, but the official website is still online so it doesn't look like they've given up yet.
This animated series is about a civil war on a distant planet between the heroic Natures Militia and the evil SpiderSect Empire. Hmmm, I wonder why they thought a bunch of Star Wars actors could carry a story like that? Check out the Official Website for information and pictures of the characters. They've got a trailer, too. You can read about Decoy (Warwick's character) here.
According to Star Wars Insider #58 (March/April 2002):
"One proposed TV show with even more Star Wars stars is the animated Nature's Guard. In addition to the already-announced Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), the voice cast of the series in development by the Canadian company LegendWorks Entertainment includes a gaggle of Star Wars luminaries, including Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Warwick Davis (Wicket and Wald), Michael Sheard (Admiral Ozzel), and Jerome Blake (Rune Haako)."
The Natures Guard Comic Books are a three-issue mini-series written by Jonathan Bryans, pencilled by Leonard Kirk (Supergirl), inked/lettered by Terry Pallot (Star Trek), distributed by Diamond Distribution, and aimed at all ages from young children to adults. Each issue is a standard comic book with 32 pages in black and white and a full-color cover, standard comic book. Issue one, "A Call to Duty," hit comic book stores worldwide in September 2002. You can read more about the comic books at the Warpton Comics site.
The Natures Guard comic books were officially launched on June 1-2, 2002 at Comics 2002 in Bristol, England. According to a Warpton Comics press release:
The Natures Militia attended Comics 2002 in Bristol, England this June, alongside special Star Wars guests, to uphold peace and freedom, against the vile SpiderSect Empire, in this 25th anniversary year of the first Star Wars film and promoted the launch of the Natures Guard Comic Series by Warpton Comics.Warwick Davis, famed for playing Wicket the Ewok, in Return of the Jedi, the now sixth instalment of the Star Wars films, stated "I was pleased to have been asked to voice the character of 'Decoy' in the forthcoming 'Natures Guard' series. After the launch of the comic at Comics 2002, and the first ever public showing of the 'Nature's Guard' animated trailer, I am anxious to get into the recording studio and give the duck a voice! 'Natures Guard' has the potential for great success".
Joined by Jeremy Bulloch, famed as Boba Fett in the Star Wars films and Alan Harris who played Bossk from Star Wars, they helped the creators and publisher in launching this exciting new title.
The brainchild of Jonathan Bryans developed under LegendWorks Entertainment in Canada; Natures Guard the comic series is the prequel to the fully CGI animation being developed for TV by LegendsWork. The voices of the characters in the animation are being supplied by Warwick, and Jeremy as well as major acting stars as, Megan Magwood (Urban Legends); Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca); and Jerome Blake (Fifth Element, Star Wars Phantom Menace) to name but a few.
I don't know when, where, or whether this animated series will go on the air.
