Labyrinth
Released 1986
Directed by Jim Henson
Starring David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly, Toby Froud, Shelley Thompson
A spoiled teenage girl in a bad mood wishes that the goblins would take her baby brother away. To her surprise, her wish comes true, and she spends the rest of the movie trying to retrieve the baby from the Goblin King (David Bowie) and his minions. She succeeds in the end, with the assistance of some oddball companions that she meets along the way.
Although this movie did not meet with a warm reception at the box office, it's actually pretty decent. It's worth watching just to see Bowie do his thing, and the offbeat situations encountered by the heroine are often fun. People who watch the film just to see Warwick Davis will be disappointed. Although he plays two different goblins, he's basically invisible in this movie. (The characters are named World War II and Bumpot, but the credits simply list him as a member of the Goblin Corps.) I can't spot Warwick in the movie, but I think I've spotted him in the making-of documentary that comes with the DVD (see pictures above).
A 1985 Warwick Davis interview in the Articles section discusses Labyrinth right at the end.
