Warwick returns as Professor Flitwick in this movie, with the same look he had in the third movie when he was just credited as "Wizard". There's never been an official explanation for WHY Flitwick changed his looks, but it's now official that he HAS changed.

His job function and personality are a bit different too. He seems to be the music director for the school and that's mainly what we see him doing, although this wouldn't prevent him from teaching Charms class as well.

He snarls an insult at Hagrid after Hagrid accidentally sticks a fork in his hand at dinner. It's a funny scene and the insult is justified, but it's still quite a change from the kindly old teacher in the books who is always calm and gentle even under difficult conditions.

In a July 2006 Mugglecast interview Warwick discussed the reason for the change and explained his own theory of who the character really was:

When it came to the third movie, of course the looks of the whole films had changed. Alfonso really wanted to put his mark on the films. And then a lot of things altered: anything from character looks, to the actual layout of Hogwarts itself. And another thing was happening at the same time. There wasn’t really anything for Flitwick in the script at all, and I got a call one day from the producer, saying basically, "There’s nothing for you, but we’d love you to be in the film all the same. How do you fancy coming in and doing a kind of cameo in the movie as somebody else?" And I said, "Well, that’s great, thanks for asking. I’m always thrilled to be part of all of this, anyway." So, I went in for a meeting with Alfonso, the director, and Nick Dougland, who’s the make-up supervisor, and we came up with this new look for this character who would be basically the conductor of the Frog Chorus in the Great Hall. And so, we went with that. When it came to making the fourth movie, Mike Newell really wanted to use the character he’d seen in number three for me, and I was quite a bit more on that movie. I was on it for 45 days, so there was a lot more stuff going on. So, I started to raise the question, "What is this guy called? Who is he?" He was known as the choir conductor in three, was he still that? I wanted to figure that out, and they said "Okay, now we’ll call him Flitwick." And I said, "Well, possibly that’s going to cause a bit of confusion." But they say, "No, that’s what we’ll go with. We’ll go with Flitwick. All the looks have changed, it’s now a bit more kind of 1950's-styley, so we’re going to go with that." So, hence he became Flitwick. I like to think - in my mind - that perhaps this is a relative of Professor Flitwick; this is perhaps a brother, or a cousin. He’s not a professor, either, he’s just Flitwick and he teaches magical music.

The movie credits specifically say that Warwick's character is named Filius Flitwick, which is the name of old Professor Flitwick. But there's no reason that he couldn't have a relative with the same name - perhaps both Flitwicks are named after the same ancestor.

I had low expectations for the movie itself. Although I liked the fourth book, it always seemed off-topic to me because the Triwizard Tournament is a massive distraction from the real storyline of the books, which is the battle against Lord Voldemort and his followers. The book was so long and had so many subplots that I didn't see how they could make a movie out of it. But they did a remarkable job of streamlining the story, and managed to cram a lot more of it into the movie's running time than I would have thought possible. It turned out to be a pretty good movie after all!

The two-disk special edition DVD includes games, documentaries, and an extra-scenes library. The extra scenes are quite nice, and Warwick is prominently featured in one of them.

In the actual movie, during the Yule Ball we get a few brief glimpses of Flitwick conducting the orchestra for ballroom dancing. Then the scene shifts to a rock band playing, and Flitwick does a little involuntary crowdsurfing. The special edition DVD has an extended version of this. We see and hear Flitwick introduce the rock band, and we see the crowd grab Flitwick to start him on his crowdsurfing journey. One of the documentaries on the disc also shows a brief moment from the crowdsurfing rehearsal.

The band plays a complete song in this extended scene instead of the few lines we hear in the movie. The song is very silly but the band rocks and is fun to watch so this scene is a great addition.
