INT. HOUSE CELLAR - DAY

Madmartigan is bustled underground through a cellar into a hidden storage room and a disguised door shuts behind him. MEN, WOMEN and CHILDREN huddle here in silence, like refugees or criminals. Madmartigan hands the crying baby to a WOMAN then lays Willow on the floor. Suddenly a huge hand clamps his shoulder: his old friend and rival Airk Thaughbaer.

AIRK: Madmartigan. Settled down with a family, huh?

Madmartigan knocks Airk's hand away.

MADMARTIGAN: You left me to die, friend.

AIRK: You managed all right.

MADMARTIGAN: Is this what's left of your army?

Among the refugees is a handful of war-battered WARRIORS. One of them, an OFFICER looks out through the ceiling beams.

OFFICER: Keep that baby quiet.

They hear hoofbeats outside. Airk gives Madmartigan a flask of whiskey. He squirts whiskey into Willow's mouth and Willow coughs and shudders awake.

INT. HOUSE CELLAR - DAY

Willow and Madmartigan are hustled down into a dusty storage cellar where several men are hiding. Suddenly a huge hand clamps Madmartigan's shoulder. It's his old friend and rival, Airk Thaughbaer.

AIRK: I knew you'd get out of that rat trap.

Madmartigan slams Airk up against the wall.

MADMARTIGAN: You left me to die, Airk.

AIRK: I probably saved your life. We were slaughtered. I lost many brave...

An OFFICER looks up between the ceiling beams.

OFFICER: Keep quiet!

Madmartigan looks at the war-battered WARRIORS hiding in the cellar. Many are wounded, exhausted, discouraged. Willow holds the baby close to his chest and whispers shhh. Hoofbeats thunder outside.

Willow and Madmartigan are led to a dusty cellar, and discover that a number of men are already hiding there. Suddenly, one of them grabs Madmartigan's shoulder.

AIRK: I knew you'd get out of that rat trap.

Madmartigan grins, then slams Airk against the wall.

MADMARTIGAN: You left me to die, Airk.

AIRK: I probably saved your life. We were slaughtered and I lost a lot of good...

GALLADOORN SOLDIER: Shhh, quiet!

EXT. VILLAGE - DAY

Raziel flies onto a rooftop and looks down. Nockmaar soldiers flood the village, dismounting, kicking down doors, searching houses. Then Raziel sees Kael riding alongside Sorsha.

In her armor, at a distance, Sorsha looks fierce. But CLOSER her eyes show confusion, hesitation. Kael watches her closely as he waves his sword at the village.

KAEL: Where is it! Tell us or we'll burn your village! Sorsha!

He shakes her roughly. She dismounts. Raziel watches as Sorsha and two other soldiers enter the house where Madmartigan and Willow are hiding.

EXT. VILLAGE - DAY

Raziel flies onto a rooftop and looks down. Kael leads the raid, and Sorsha rides beside him.

KAEL: Where is that baby! Sorsha, look everywhere! Pick this village apart!

His men kick down doors and search houses. Sorsha leaps down from her horse. With three SOLDIERS, she smashes open the house where Willow and the others are hiding.

Up above, Sorsha kicks open the door of the hut and strides inside, looking around. The voice of Kael can be heard in the distance.

KAEL: Tear this village apart! Look everywhere! Find the child!

INT. HOUSE CELLAR - DAY

Willow holds the baby tight. Madmartigan, Airk and the Officer watch through the cracks. Boots pound above, shaking dust down on them. A door opens.

Nobody breathes. Willow buries the baby in his chest. Madmartigan peeks through the door. Sorsha, alone, comes down into the cellar. They see her. Searching. Airk's men reach for their swords, begin to draw. Whisper:

OFFICER: Kill her.

Madmartigan shakes his head.

MADMARTIGAN: You'll draw the others.

Airk looks at Madmartigan curiously. Madmartigan watches Sorsha. She is right there, inches away. Inaudibly, he says her name. At last she goes back upstairs.

INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS - DAY

Sorsha comes up and begins to leave with the other two soldiers.

INT. CELLAR

In Willow's arms, the baby lets out a cry.

INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS

Sorsha and the soldiers stop and draw swords. The baby's cry is suddenly drowned out by a loud SCREECH. Raziel flaps in through a window and flies madly around the house, cawing and shrieking insanely. Sorsha and the soldiers sheathe their swords and leave.

INT. CELLAR

Everyone sighs with relief.

INT. HOUSE CELLAR - DAY

Madmartigan, Airk and the Officer watch through the ceiling boards. Boots pound above, shaking dust on them. Madmartigan sees Sorsha. Nobody breathes. Willow buries the baby in his chest.

INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS

Sorsha and the three soldiers search the main floor of the house. They knock over sacks of grain and ransack the place. Finding nothing, they start to leave.

INT. CELLAR

Elora Danan lets out a cry.

INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS

They stop dead. They draw their swords. Suddenly the baby's cry is drowned out by a loud SCREECH. Raziel flaps in through a window and flies madly around the rafters, cawing and shrieking insanely.

INT. CELLAR

Everyone sighs with relief. Willow puts his finger in Elora Danan's mouth and quietly sings to her.

As Sorsha and her soldiers search the hut, they knock a table over with a loud crash. Elora starts wailing. While Willow frantically tries to quiet the baby, Raziel flies through the hut, cawing loudly to distract and mislead Sorsha. When Elora stops crying Raziel flies away, but Sorsha is still on the alert. Madmartigan watches her with interest through the spaces between the floorboards.

EXT. VILLAGE - DAY

In the distance the Nockmaar army is setting houses ablaze and Kael is terrorizing the fleeing people with his sword. Sorsha mounts her horse. Her attention is momemtarily caught by a MAN across the street who, from the back, looks like Madmartigan. She gasps. The man turns around. She sags with disappointment, spurs her horse, and rides off.

The deadly squad of Nockmaar horsemen gallops out of the village.

INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS

As Sorsha heads out the door, she sees something and stops. Sweeping spilled grain aside with her boot, she finds the door to the cellar.

EXT. VILLAGE - DAY

Kael gallops out from behind a building, scattering villagers with his sword, and meets his Lieutenant.

KAEL: Tell Sorsha I'm going to search the north bank!

The Lieutenant salutes. Kael rides off with ten men.

Outside, the Nockmaar troops are terrorizing the villagers.

KAEL: Tell Sorsha I search the north bank.

NOCKMAAR SOLDIER: Yes, general.

Kael rides away with several soldiers. Inside the hut, Sorsha kicks aside an animal-skin rug and discovers the trapdoor to the cellar. Madmartigan, Airk and the soldiers back away into the shadows beside the stairway.

GALLADOORN SOLDIER: (to Willow, who's struggling to keep Elora quiet) Shhh, quiet!

INT. CELLAR - DAY

The hiding rebels crouch down as the cellar door opens, letting in a shaft of dusty light.

Sorsha cautiously descends the stairs, squinting into the darkness. One soldier goes with her, while the other two watch from above.

Airk and Madmartigan make their move. Airk quickly kills the soldier. Madmartigan lunges at Sorsha. She jumps aside, lightning-quick, and shouts.

SORSHA: Down here!

Madmartigan grabs her and holds a knife to her throat. The two soldiers storm downstairs. And stop. They look into the eyes of Airk's rebels. Holding Sorsha hostage, Madmartigan backs the two Nockmaar soldiers up the stairs. Elora Danan cries.

As Sorsha slowly descends the cellar steps, Airk gives Madmartigan a dagger. They wait tensely for Sorsha to come nearer. Sorsha cries out in surprise when Madmartigan grabs her wrist, jerks her off the steps, and puts the dagger to her throat.

NOCKMAAR SOLDIER: (one of several coming down the steps) Sorsha!

MADMARTIGAN: Back. Back!

The soldiers do as he says. Madmartigan, still holding Sorsha, leads the way as the fugitives come out of the cellar.

MADMARTIGAN: Back.

AIRK: Keep that baby quiet.

WILLOW: But she needs to be changed.

They go upstairs.

INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS

The rebels disarm the Nockmaar soldiers and hurl them into a corner. There's a great sense of urgency and fear. Willow changes the baby's diaper rags. Madmartigan holds onto Sorsha and watches out the window.

AIRK: (to Willow) Keep the baby quiet.

WILLOW: She needs to be changed.

INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS - DAY

Madmartigan and Willow come upstairs with Airk and his men.

AIRK: It's you they're after, Madmartigan. What did you do this time?

MADMARTIGAN: They're not after me. They want the baby.

Living in the house is a scrawny, shifty-eyed man named CUTH. He watches and listens.

MADMARTIGAN: Nockmaar scum.

SORSHA: You'll never defeat us. Give up the baby.

She struggles and Madmartigan clamps his hand over her mouth. Airk squats down and studies the baby.

MADMARTIGAN: (looking out the window at the violence outside) Nockmaar scum.

SORSHA: (struggling) You'll never defeat us. Give up the baby!

MADMARTIGAN: Shut up!

Willow settles down next to the fireplace to change the baby.

AIRK: Who is this baby?

Willow steps forward, both protective and proud.

WILLOW: The princess, Elora Danan.

They all know of her. They all sigh with respect and awe, and they bow.

PEOPLE: The prophecy has come true.

AIRK: Give her to us. We'll protect her.

Raziel screeches from a ceiling beam.

RAZIEL: Not safe! Not safe!

Willow looks up at Raziel hopefully.

WILLOW: We're taking her to Tir Asleen. She'll be safe there from Bavmorda's powers.

Airk looks up at Raziel. Then down at Willow. He clasps Madmartigan's arm.

AIRK: What does Bavmorda want with this child anyway?

WILLOW: She's a princess. We're taking her to Tir Asleen.

AIRK: What does Bavmorda want with this baby anyway?

WILLOW: She's a princess. We're taking her to Tir Asleen.

AIRK: Tir Asleen is a myth. It doesn't exist.

RAZIEL: It does! It does! I will show you!

Airk impatiently waves the bird away and shoves Madmartigan in the chest.

AIRK: You gonna be a hero, Madmartigan? I've lost half my men fighting Kael, and Bavmorda, and the Nockmaar army. Now you and this Peck, and that magpie up in the rafters, are gonna take 'em on alone?

AIRK: Tir Asleen? Nobody's been there in years. Even if you could find it, Peck -- she's right -- you'd never get past the Nockmaar army.

WILLOW: There's an even bigger army at Tir Asleen, if we can just get there.

Airk goes over to Madmartigan at the window. Willow rigs a new papoose.

AIRK: I've lost more than half my men fighting Bavmorda. Now you and this Peck are gonna take her on? You always said you served no one, Madmartigan. Since when are you a crusader? (Madmartigan doesn't answer) He's not going to help you, Peck. He's a worthless thief.

MADMARTIGAN: I'm not a thief, Airk!

WILLOW: He's not a thief.... Are you?

Willow thinks about it. So does Madmartigan.

AIRK: Tir Asleen? Even if you could find it, peck, she's right - you'd never get past the Nockmaar army.

WILLOW: There's an even bigger army at Tir Asleen, if we can just get there.

AIRK: (to Madmartigan) I've lost more than half my army fighting Bavmorda. Now you and this peck are gonna take her on? You always told me you served no one, Madmartigan. Since when are you a crusader? (to Willow) He's not gonna help you, peck. He's a worthless thief.

MADMARTIGAN: I'm not a thief, Airk.

WILLOW: (to Airk) He's not a thief. (to Madmartigan) Are you?

There's a long pause as Madmartigan thinks about his answer. He stands up, dragging Sorsha with him.

MADMARTIGAN: (challenging) Then come with us.

Airk angrily stabs his finger at the floor.

AIRK: The war is here! In towns and villages like this!

Airk crosses his arms and turns his back, looking out at the burning houses and the suffering families.

AIRK: You're chasing a dream.

MADMARTIGAN: Just get me some horses.

Airk glares at him furiously. Then he kicks open the door and storms out into the street. Madmartigan and Willow hurry after him.

EXT. MOUNTAINSIDE - VILLAGE OUTSKIRTS - DAY

Airk and his men, plus some villagers, watch as Madmartigan mounts a large horse. Then some villagers help Willow wiggle up onto a small pony. They sling the baby over Willow's back and stuff saddlebags with provisions.

MADMARTIGAN: Once again, Airk, we say goodbye.

Sadly and cynically, Airk laughs.

AIRK: One day one of us will stand on the other's grave.

MADMARTIGAN: I serve the Nelwyn, Airk. Wanna come with us?

AIRK: You'll never make it, Madmartigan.

MADMARTIGAN: Then once again we say goodbye.

They put on cloaks and armor

AIRK: One day one of us will stand on the other's grave.

MADMARTIGAN: I hope it's not today.

MADMARTIGAN: I serve the Nelwyn, Airk.

Willow smiles. Airk looks stunned.

MADMARTIGAN: Wanna come with us?

AIRK: You'll never make it, Madmartigan.

MADMARTIGAN: Then once again we say goodbye.

They shake hands ruggedly. Madmartigan nods at Willow and they head off. Airk watches them go, clearly ambivalent about staying behind. They ride up the snowy slope, Raziel circling above.

WE SEE Cuth. He scratches his filthy beard. He sneaks off through the village, in the direction of the Nockmaar army.

EXT. VILLAGE - DAY

The door opens. Willow follows Madmartigan and Sorsha. Madmartigan helps Willow and the baby onto a horse and then hauls Sorsha onto another horse. She struggles and screams. The Nockmaar soldiers see them.

LIEUTENANT: Sorsha!

The soldiers charge toward them and draw their arrows.

MADMARTIGAN: Weapons down or she's dead... (nobody moves) Get going, Willow.

Willow rides away. Madmartigan backs out of town on horseback, holding Sorsha at knifepoint. Then he swings around magnificently. The horse rears up and gallops off.

LIEUTENANT: Get to your horses! After them!

Madmartigan forces Sorsha outside, followed by Willow with the baby. Madmartigan and Sorsha mount one of the horses tethered there; Willow takes another one. They are unnoticed until Sorsha calls out.

SORSHA: Over here!

NOCKMAAR SOLDIER: Sorsha!

The soldiers start to advance on the heroes.

MADMARTIGAN: Weapons down or she's dead.

Reluctantly, they throw down their swords.

WILLOW: (to his horse) Hyaah, hyaah!

They ride out of the village. The Nockmaar soldiers immediately grab their swords.

NOCKMAAR SOLDIER: Get to the horses, after them!

But the pursuit is thwarted by Airk and his men, who come charging out of the hut and attack the Nockmaar minions. The villagers happily join in the fray, attacking the soldiers who had been terrorizing them only moments before. Raziel flies after Willow and Madmartigan. Airk watches them ride away.

EXT. MOUNTAIN - DAY

Snow circles around them as they climb. Then, oddly, the mountain becomes warmer, and the snow melts away. They reach a slope of dark vitreous lava.

RAZIEL: Nockmaar! Nockmaar!

Far away, at the top of the mountain, looms the ominous Castle of Nockmaar. The black lava flows from it like a deadly shadow.

EXT. MOUNTAIN - DAY

Snow swirls around Willow and Madmartigan as they climb. But they persevere, riding fast, keeping an eye out behind them. Willow keeps Elora Danan snug inside his warm tunic.

EXT. VOLCANIC MOUNTAINSIDE - DAY

The mountain becomes warmer, and the snow melts away. Willow loosens the tunic. On the volcanic mountaintop looms the ominous fortress of Nockmaar. Sorsha squirms. Madmartigan holds her tight.

EXT. CAVE OF THE EBORSISK - DAY

Their horses rear up as they approach the mouth of the cave. Raziel waits for them, circling and cawing.

RAZIEL: This way! The cave!

They dismount and lead the horses. But the horses panic, their frightened neighing voices echoing deep in the gloomy cave, and they break away and run off.

Willow swallows hard. He and Madmartigan follow Raziel inside.

INT. CAVE OF THE EBORSISK - DAY

Daylight is soon replaced by the orange glow of molten lava.

WILLOW: Madmartigan! I can't stand being in closed-in places.

MADMARTIGAN: Want me to carry Elora?

WILLOW: I'm used to her. How's she doing?

Willow wears the papoose on his back. Madmartigan looks in at the baby's face.

MADMARTIGAN: She's doing a lot better than we are, Peck.

Willow and Madmartigan laugh, which breaks the tension. Then a geyser of steam hisses near them and a bat screeches somewhere and the tension's back. They keep going.

INT. DEEPER IN THE CAVE

Hot liquid drips from the ceiling. Hissing steam bubbles from the floor. They go single-file along a ledge over a foaming lava pit. Raziel is squawking way ahead in the distance.

MADMARTIGAN: Willow...this may be a bad time to ask this question but...what if Raziel's wrong?

WILLOW: She can't be wrong. She's a very very very powerful sorceress.

MADMARTIGAN: She's a bird, Willow.

WILLOW: That's my fault, not hers. I've got to keep practicing. I'm still in the learning stage but magic, Madmartigan, requires concentration and--

MADMARTIGAN: Watch it!

WILLOW: Ahhh!

Madmartigan lunges and grabs Willow just as he is about to fall into the lava pit. He hauls him to safety. They gasp with relief. Then they head deeper into the cave. They stop. They hear something. Something strange.

Then, something moves on the wall.

WILLOW: I hate this.

The cave walls come to life. Down them crawl ugly ROCK PUFFERS, pillow-sized wall crabs that screech horribly like bats. Madmartigan fights them off with his sword. The Rock Puffers bloat themselves up, tripling their size. Madmartigan stabs one and it hisses away like an untied balloon.

Suddenly, distant hoofbeats thunder and echo. Madmartigan flashes his sword and turns around, ready to defend Willow and the baby against the army.

MADMARTIGAN: Go, Willow! Run! Run!

Willow listens as the hoofbeats get louder and louder. At last he turns and runs deeper into the cave. Madmartigan waits.

The Nockmaar soldiers, now increased to eighty, come charging down the cave. Kael rides in the lead alongside the turncoat Cuth. As they gallop along the ledge, Cuth makes the mistake of crowding Kael, who angrily elbows him, horse and all, into the boiling pit.

The army tramples over the Rock Puffers, which explode underfoot. Madmartigan braces himself as they stampede toward him. But suddenly the horsemen all screech thir horses to a halt. The horses rear and back away.

Madmartigan stands there, wondering. Then suddenly a shadow looms behind him. He turns.

The EBORSISK roars and the cave shakes and thunders. It's an enormous two-headed monster that doesn't like visitors.

MADMARTIGAN: Willow! Willow!

He looks around frantically. Willow is nowhere to be seen. Then the baby cries out. Madmartigan sees them, cowering behind a rock. He runs toward them. The Eborsisk exhales flames over his head.

KAEL: Go after them!

Soldiers obey Kael and go after Madmartigan. He fights them, hacking down a few, while a few others are incinerated by the Eborsisk. Sorsha's horse rears as she watches Madmartigan battle for his life. Archers shoot arrows, which pierce the Eborsisk and make it even angrier.

Willow digs one of his magic acorns out of his pocket. A head of the Eborsisk gnashes at Madmartigan. Madmartigan looks to Willow for help.

MADMARTIGAN: Hurry, Willow! Throw it!

Willow winds up and throws with all his might. The Eborsisk blasts a flame, which startles Willow, wrecking his aim. Madmartigan's eyes pop open and he ducks as the acorn whistles by his ear. The acorn bounces off a rock and flies back, trickles along the ground and hits a Nockmaar soldier, who is already dead. The soldier's body turns to stone.

RAZIEL: Look out!

One of the Eborsisk's heads lunges toward the baby. Raziel dives like a rocket and attacks the monster's eye as Willow whisks the baby away.

Then Madmartigan leaps up on the Eborsisk. He climbs up over its flaming head and drives his sword down through its skull. The Eborsisk howls horribly and its wounded head falls. Madmartigan topples down its back and leaps onto a horse, knocking its rider off and, all in one swashbuckling move, scooping Willow and the baby up onto the back of the horse and galloping away.

KAEL: After them!!

But as his horsemen charge forward, the Eborsisk falls to its knees, half-dead. The surviving head blasts the soldiers with fire. They rear back on their horses and continue to battle the monster with arrows and spears.

[The Eborsisk appears at Tir Asleen in the late script and movie] [The Eborsisk appears at Tir Asleen in the late script and movie]

EXT. CANYON ENTRANCE - DAY

The horses spook as Raziel leads them to a narrow canyon.

RAZIEL: This way! This way!

WILLOW: Look!

MADMARTIGAN: Who's that?

A speck on the horizon, Kael and his men ride toward them.

SORSHA: It's General Kael. He's coming for me.

MADMARTIGAN: Well, he's not getting you -- or Sticks.

SORSHA: He's going to enjoy tearing you apart.

RAZIEL: Hurry! Hurry!

MADMARTIGAN: Turn around.

They edge their horses into the narrow canyon entrance.

EXT. CANYON MAZE - DAY

The canyon opens into several branches.

RAZIEL: To the left! This way!

WILLOW: It'll be all right, Elora. You must not cry, you must not be afraid. Everything's going to be all right.

They follow Raziel as she divebombs into one of the branches. PULL BACK to reveal a maze of canyons.

EXT. DEEPER IN THE CANYON - DAY

The way gets difficult. Slowly, Madmartigan and Sorsha ride a distance behind Willow and the baby.

MADMARTIGAN: Willow! How's my little Sticks doing?

WILLOW: She's asleep.

Willow checks Elora Danan, who is asleep in the cloth sling across his chest, and talks to her softly.

WILLOW: ....You remind me of Mims and Ranon, when they were babies...

He looks around at the desolate canyon.

WILLOW: I miss my family...

Some time later, the heroes have left the snowy heights and have arrived at the entrance to an arid canyon maze with guidance from Raziel.

RAZIEL: This way! This way! As the crow flies, you fools!

Sorsha twists her body uncomfortably.

SORSHA: You're holding me too tight.

MADMARTIGAN: I don't want you to get away.

SORSHA: Why? Because I'm your moon? Your sun? Your starlit sky?

She angrily whips her head around and her thick hair hits him in the face.

MADMARTIGAN: Get your hair out of my face or I'll chop it off.

He bats her hair away. But it won't go away, and it's so beautiful, it's a nuisance.

SORSHA: What are you gonna do to me?

MADMARTIGAN: I'm taking you to your father.

SORSHA: I don't even remember my father. He means nothing to me.

MADMARTIGAN: Raziel says he's a great king.

SORSHA: You'll never find Tir Asleen.

They ride along in silence.

MADMARTIGAN: Did I really say those things?

Madmartigan and Sorsha are still riding on the same horse, with Sorsha in front.

SORSHA: You're holding me too tight!

MADMARTIGAN: Well, I don't want you to get away.

SORSHA: Why? Because I'm your sun, your moon, your starlit sky?

MADMARTIGAN: Get your hair out of my face or I'll chop it off. (pause) Did I really... did I really say those things last night in your tent?

SORSHA: You said you loved me.

MADMARTIGAN: I don't remember that.

SORSHA: You lied to me.

MADMARTIGAN: No I didn;t, I... I wasn't myself last night.

SORSHA: I suppose my power enchanted you and you were helpless against it...?

MADMARTIGAN: Sort of...

SORSHA: Then what?

MADMARTIGAN: It went away.

SORSHA: You said you loved me.

MADMARTIGAN: I don't remember that.

SORSHA: You lied to me.

MADMARTIGAN: No, I... I just wasn't myself last night.

SORSHA: I suppose my power enchanted you and you were helpless against it.

MADMARTIGAN: Sort of.

SORSHA: Then what?

MADMARTIGAN: It went away.

SORSHA: Went away?? "I dwell in darkness without you," and it went away??

She elbows him hard in the gut and makes a run for it. He jumps down and tackles her in a muddy stream, wrestling and finally pinning her down. A pause. He lies there astride her. They're both breathing hard. They stare into each other's eyes.

SORSHA: Went away?! "I dwell in darkness without you," and it went away?!

MADMARTIGAN: Yeah.

Sorsha angrily elbows him in the belly and leaps off the horse. Madmartigan dismounts, runs after her, and tackles her, pinning her on the ground.

WILLOW: (to his horse) Whoa.

Madmartigan and Sorsha stare into each other's eyes.

RAZIEL: Hurry! The army! Hurry!

Suddenly distant hoofbeats echo through the canyon. Madmartigan jumps up and drags Sorsha, who kicks and scratches.

[Note sequence differences between late script and movie in the following passages.]

RAZIEL: They're coming! Away!

WILLOW: Madmartigan, come on! Now!

As he starts to swing Sorsha up on his horse she punches him and runs. Madmartigan goes after her.

WILLOW: Madmartigan, come on!

RAZIEL: You have no time to lose!

Madmartigan mounts his horse. He and Sorsha look at each other. The hoofbeats get louder, closer. Madmartigan rides away, leaving Sorsha alone in the canyon.

RAZIEL: Hurry! Kael's coming. War!

Madmartigan pulls Sorsha to her feet and starts dragging her toward the horse.

WILLOW: Madmartigan, come on! Now!

Sorsha breaks free and runs away. Madmartigan starts to chase her.

WILLOW: Madmartigan, come on!

Madmartigan hesitates.

RAZIEL: They're coming. Away!

WILLOW: (to his horse) Go on, hyaah!

Making up his mind, Madmartigan jumps on his horse. Sorsha stops running, and for a long moment their eyes meet. Then she turns and runs away, and Madmartigan sets out after Willow and Raziel.

MADMARTIGAN: Haah!

Further down the canyon, Kael and his troops pause to examine the trail.

KAEL: (spurring his horse) This way!

EXT. WALL OF THORNS - DAY

Willow and Madmartigan ride to a passage in the canyon which is blocked by a wall of thorny vines.

WILLOW: Raziel! We'll have to turn back!

RAZIEL: Light three fires three paces apart and bring down Bavmorda's wall.

They leap down off their horses. Willow holds the baby and looks out for Kael's army, while Madmartigan urgently chips sparks into the thorns with a flint.

RAZIEL: Use the fourth chant of unity!

WILLOW: Tuatha luminockt tuatha!

RAZIEL: Both of you!

Madmartigan looks up, then looks at Willow.

MADMARTIGAN: Me??

WILLOW: Tuatha luminockt tuatha...

MADMARTIGAN: Tuatha... loom -- what is it?

A flame suddenly flares up in the wall.

MADMARTIGAN/Willow: (together) Tuatha luminockt tuatha! Tuatha luminockt tuatha!

EXT. WALL OF THORNS - A LITTLE LATER

Kael and his troops, including Sorsha, gallop up to the thorns, which have burned away leaving a smoldering opening. Willow and Madmartigan are gone.

EXT. CAVE - TIR ASLEEN - DAY

They ride out of the mouth of the dark cave into a lush valley of flowers. In the distance stands the beautiful CASTLE OF TIR ASLEEN. Raziel zooms up out of the cave and flies above them as they gallop fullspeed toward it. She soars higher and higher and flies right over the castle wall.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN CASTLE - DAY

The door of the castle is half open. Madmartigan and Willow gallop inside.

EXT. VALLEY OF TIR ASLEEN - DAY

Willow and Madmartigan gallop out of the canyon maze into a lush valley of flowers. In the distance stands the beautiful CASTLE OF TIR ASLEEN.

RAZIEL: Tir Asleen!

WILLOW: We're safe!

MADMARTIGAN: Come on, hurry.

They gallop fullspeed toward the castle. Raziel soars ahead of them and flies right over the castle wall.

EXT. CASTLE OF TIR ASLEEN - DAY

The door is half open. They gallop inside.

Later, Willow and Madmartigan's horses race across a grassy valley toward a magnificent castle.

RAZIEL: Tir Asleen! At last, Tir Asleen!

They enter the open gateway and bring their horses to a stop, looking around in shock.

INT. TIR ASLEEN - DAY

Raziel flies down to meet them as they ride into the castle courtyard. A haunting wind drones amont TWELVE PILLARS which look like stone from a distance.

RAZIEL: Tir Asleen.

WILLOW: There's nobody here.

They approach the twelve pillars.

RAZIEL: The Knights of the Pacalcade. The king's bravest warriors.

Suddenly they hear hoofbeats and a warcry.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN - DAY

Kael and his army charge out of the cave and trample across the valley of flowers.

INT. TIR ASLEEN

Madmartigan rushes to the heavy door and strains to shut it.

[The Nockmaar army arrives a few minutes later in the late script and movie.]

INT. TIR ASLEEN - COURTYARD - DAY

Raziel lets out a haunting screech. The courtyard is empty and eerie. Like ghosts, the CITIZENS of Tir Asleen stand frozen inside quartz-like statues. Willow and Madmartigan dismount and cautiously explore.

MADMARTIGAN: Hello! Hello!

WILLOW: Oh Elora, this place is awful. I'm sorry...

MADMARTIGAN: Why'd I listen to you, peck? "Everything'll be all right once we get to Tir Asleen." The only army around here's the one that's about to ride across that valley and wipe us out.

WILLOW: But Cherlindrea said we'd be safe here.

MADMARTIGAN: Safe?? Look at these people. The place is cursed, and it's falling apart and -- (he steps in something) Trolls? I hate trolls.

They approach the statue of the KING. Raziel lands on the King's shoulder.

RAZIEL: The king!

MADMARTIGAN: Sorsha's father?

RAZIEL: This is the work of Bavmorda.

Madmartigan squats down and looks at his dagger.

MADMARTIGAN: This isn't going to be easy.

Raziel flaps her wings.

MADMARTIGAN: (shouting) Hello? Hello! Hello!

Echoes are the only reply. The castle's inhabitants are frozen in blocks of crystal.

MADMARTIGAN: Why did I listen to you, peck? (mockingly) "Everything'll be all right once we get to Tir Asleen." The only army around here is the one that's about to ride across this valley and wipe us out!

WILLOW: But Cherlindrea said we'd be safe here!

MADMARTIGAN: Safe?! Look at these people! This place is cursed, peck. It's falling apart. Open your eyes. And it...

Madmartigan steps in something soft and squishy. He looks at the mess on his boot with distaste.

MADMARTIGAN: Trolls.

WILLOW: (horrified) I hate trolls!

RAZIEL: This is the work of Bavmorda.

Discouraged, Madmartigan wanders off.

RAZIEL: Turn them back, Willow!

Willow stares at the twelve knights.

WILLOW: How??

RAZIEL: Use the philosopher's stone! Hurry! Invocation! Release them!

The castle door is rusted and old. Madmartigan heaves against it. Outside he can see the army storming toward him.

Willow digs out his philosopher's stone. He squints and strains, concentrating his energy.

WILLOW: Beings within, beings without! Danu danu walkail funfawtha!

He continues to chant and to concentrate. One of the knights comes to life.

WILLOW: I did it! Madmartigan! Come here! Look! You gotta see this! I did it!

RAZIEL: More! More!

Madmartigan heaves the door shut just as the army charges up, and he locks it with a huge bolt.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN - DAY

The Nockmaar horsemen rear back from the locked door.

KAEL: Assault! Scale the walls!

He sends his men in all directions. They leap off their horses and hack down trees from the nearby woods.

INT. TIR ASLEEN

Willow brings the knights to life, one by one.

WILLOW: Tuatha tuatha danu!

Each knight shakes himself into action. Madmartigan follows them into an armory.

WILLOW: Raziel! I transformed them all! I'm a magician!

RAZIEL: You didn't transform them, Willow, you released them. That was nothing. Now change me.

Willow's on a roll. He rubs his hands together.

WILLOW: I feel like I could do anything!

He drops to his knees and stretches his philosopher's stone apart like an accordian.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN - ARMORY

Madmartigan and the knights grab weapons and armor. Two knights wheel a catapult out on the battlements. Madmartigan sees, displayed specially on a rack, a complete set of armor of shining silver. He reaches out to touch it.

KNIGHT: It belonged to our king.

INT. TIR ASLEEN - COURTYARD

The knights light a fire and boil vats of oil. Willow struggles to transform Raziel, trying to remember all he has learned.

WILLOW: Capture the energy...limitless power of the will...avvdachh doth indicht rredd baerkinhaekin!

RAZIEL: Willow -- the wand!

Willow looks at her in disbelief.

WILLOW: Are you sure?

Raziel caws and tilts her head.

INT. ARMORY

Madmartigan goes in among an arsenal of spears, crossbows, broadswords, etc. Then he sees the king's gold suit of armor.

INT. COURTYARD

[Note sequence differences between late script and movie in the following passages.]

Willow holds the wand and chants.

WILLOW: Avalorium... greenan luatha...

RAZIEL: Hurry, Willow! Transform me!

He fumbles and almost drops the wand.

WILLOW: I can't do it. I'm just not a sorcerer.

RAZIEL: But you can be. And you must! Speak -- and be one with the words!

WILLOW: Greenan luatha tye thonda peerstaar...

He reacts to the pain in his arms. But a noise breaks his concentration. He looks out through the castle door.

EXT. POV - VALLEY OF TIR ASLEEN

Willow sees Kael and his army trample across the valley of flowers, blowing battle horns and flashing their weapons. Sorsha rides with them.

RAZIEL: Willow, the wand! Turn me back into my human form.

WILLOW: Are you sure?

Madmartigan cheers up when he finds the castle's armory. He laughs as he looks at the weapons, and twirls a sword.

MADMARTIGAN: Good.

His pleasure is increased by the discovery of a magnificent suit of armor.

RAZIEL: Hurry, Willow. Transform me.

WILLOW: I can't do it. I'm just not a sorcerer.

RAZIEL: But you can be! Speak, and be one with the words.

Willow aims the wand at Raziel.

WILLOW: Avalorium... greenan... luatha... tye...

RAZIEL: No, Willow, you're losing me!

Willow is distracted by the sound of horses outside the castle.

WILLOW: Madmartigan, Kael's coming!

Raziel begins to change. From a bird, she expands, stretches, and turns into a GOAT.

WILLOW: Raziel? Is that you? Oh-oh. What happened?

Raziel tilts her goat head.

RAZIEL: I hate this.

RAZIEL: (O.S.) Willow!

INT. COURTYARD

Willow turns around and is shocked to see that Raziel has been transformed into a GOAT. She runs away.

WILLOW: Wait, Raziel -- come back!

RAZIEL: No-o-o-o-o-o!

RAZIEL: Willow-w-w, you i-i-idiot!

Raziel is now a goat.

WILLOW: (as she runs away) Raziel?!

[The army's arrival and Madmartigan's closing of the gate occurred earlier in the early script.]

Suddenly flaming arrows rain down over the castle wall. Willow scoops up the baby and he and Raziel run for cover.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN

From their horses Kael and Sorsha watch as the soldiers climb the wall. They suddenly hear a hacking noise above and several Nockmaar men tumble down the ladders. Sorsha looks up.

High on the wall stands Madmartigan, magnificently dressed in the glimmering armor of the King!

INT. COURTYARD

We SEE Madmartigan's hands tying a rope. WIDER VIEW: he is wearing the king's golden armor! He hears the army.

MADMARTIGAN: Arm that catapult, Willow!

Willow runs toward a catapult on the castle wall. Madmartigan has set up several booby traps around the courtyard. He begins to shut the heavy gates. The army can be seen charging toward the castle. Madmartigan shuts and bolts the gates just in time. He sighs with relief, turns around, and sees a goat.

RAZIEL: Good work, Madmartigan.

MADMARTIGAN: Raziel?? What happened to you?

In reply, Raziel looks scornfully up at Willow, who shrugs.

Madmartigan strides out of the castle, dressed in the armor.

MADMARTIGAN: Willow, arm that catapult up there!

Madmartigan strains to close the castle gate, and drops the bar in place just before the Nockmaar army can enter. He laughs as their horses come to a stop.

RAZIEL: Good work, Madma-a-artigan.

MADMARTIGAN: What the hell happened to you?

[The fight with the Eborsisk occurred on the way to Tir Asleen in the early script.]

Kael roars and points his deadly sword up at Madmartigan. Then several soldiers attack the castle door with a huge battering ram and smash it open.

KAEL: Attack!!

Kael and Sorsha gallop into the castle with other Nockmaar horsemen, while Madmartigan continues to battle attackers on the castle wall.

INT. TIR ASLEEN

Willow looks up as the horsemen charge into the courtyard. He makes a run for the hallway. SIX HORSEMEN chase after him, jumping off their horses and drawing their swords.

Sorsha dismounts, draws a sword, and strides up the stairs toward the top of the wall.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN

Kael furiously swings his sword.

KAEL: Assault! Battering ram!

His men ride toward nearby woods and cut down a large tree.

INT. COURTYARD

Madmartigan and Raziel haul a huge catapult into position, loading it with spears and arrows.

[The trolls show up a little earlier in the late script than they do in the movie.]

Up on the wall, Willow looks for a catapult stone. Suddenly a hideous hairy TROLL hangs upside-down in front of him. Willow screams and makes a run for it. He dashes out on the wooden bridge, and WE SEE the troll scurrying along underneath. At the castle end is a door. But it's locked! He sets the baby down in a rain gutter and looks for the troll. Where is he?

EXT. TIR ASLEEN

The soldiers raise their weapons and assault the gates with the battering ram.

INT. COURTYARD

[The Nockmaar army gets into Tir Asleen a little earlier in the late script than they do in the movie.]

The gates begin to burst open. The Nockmaar army starts in. Madmartigan picks a couple of them off with his crossbow.

On the bridge, the troll swings up and grabs Willow, smacking his ugly chops.

WILLOW: You're not eating me!!

Willow socks the troll right in the nose. The troll drops him and backs away, growling angrily. Raziel shouts up from the courtyard.

KAEL: (outside the gate) Assault! Sorsha, battering ram!

Battle preparations begin. Madmartigan rolls a barrel onto a narrow causeway. Sorsha points at a tall tree.

SORSHA: Cut it down!

Willow arms a catapult as Madmartigan drags a net full of metal objects across the courtyard. Sorsha supervises the soldier chopping down the tree.

SORSHA: Faster!

The preparations proceed. Willow looks out of a high window in the wall just in time to see several Nockmaar horsemen run toward the gate with the improvised battering ram.

KAEL: Forward! Break it down!

The battering ram thuds into the gate. It's clearly just a matter of time until the Nockmaar army gets in. Willow runs across a wooden bridge toward the castle, looking for a place to hide. He doesn't see the trolls following him, and when he reaches the building he is stopped by a locked door.

KAEL: (supervising the battering ram operation) Again! Again!

Willow puts Elora down in a sheltered spot so he can deal with the door more easily. Suddenly, he is confronted by a troll.

RAZIEL: Willow, use the wand!

As the troll lurches, Willow whips out the wand and whacks him across the head.

WILLOW: Avaggdu strockt!

Magic: the troll disintegrates into a blob of jiggling jelly: an evolving polliwog covered in goo. Willow kicks it off the bridge and it splashes into the moat below.

Madmartigan fires the catapult. Spears and arrows knock the army back. Madmartigan crouches behind a huge barrel platoon.[sic] They fire flaming arrows at the barrel and it ignites. Madmartigan rolls it toward them. But they back him toward the moat. Cornered, he stands ready to die fighting as the Nockmaar army breaks through the gates and charge toward him.

Suddenly the Nockmaar soldiers stop and back away. Madmartigan grins, thinking they're all afraid of him. Then he senses something behind him. Something large. He slowly turns.

An enormous EBORSISK with two fire-breathing heads looms up out of the moat and roars. The Nockmaar army turns and runs. And Madmartigan has no choice but to run with them.

[Note sequence differences between the late script and the movie during the battle.]

The Eborsisk exhales raging fire in all directions. Willow huddles up above with the baby. Just as he starts to make a dash across the bridge, the Eborsisk torches it, and the middle of the bridge bursts into flame.

Madmartigan is trapped with the enemy. For a split second he sees Sorsha: eye contact.

RAZIEL: (from ground level) Willow, use the wand on that troll!

Willow pulls out the wand and zaps the troll with a bolt of energy.

WILLOW: Bellanockt!

Willow is quite startled at what happens next. The troll falls down, writhing, moaning and smoking, and begins to transform. Its skin is stripped away, leaving a brain-like mass, from which two nasty-looking heads begin to emerge.

WILLOW: Eww!

He kicks the disgusting thing into the moat, which starts bubbling.

Meanwhile, the castle gate is giving way beneath the battering ram.

KAEL: Break it down! Forward!

The Nockmaar army pours into Tir Asleen and promptly meets with resistance from Madmartigan, who's in position behind the barrel. He shoots several of them with crossbows, then defiantly stands up, roaring and twirling his sword. He doesn't see the massive object rising up behind him.

But the Nockmaar soldiers do. They abruptly stop their attack, then turn and run with shouts of "Get out of here!" Madmartigan grins cockily as he watches them go. Then he hears a sound behind him.

Nervously, he turns around. For a moment he's stunned by the sight of the huge two-headed eborsisk dragon standing there, then he recovers his wits and runs after the Nockmaar minions. The dragon sends a jet of flame after the fleeing men.

No one stops running until they're safely outside the castle gates. They look fearfully at the dragon for a moment, then everyone realizes the same thing: Madmartigan is standing in the middle of the Nockmaar army.

KAEL: After him!

A squad of soldiers chases him into a blind alley, while the rest of the army fight the Eborsisk.

INT. BLIND ALLEY

The soldiers trip a booby-trap and get shot down by arrows. Madmartigan pops out of a drainage culvert with a crossbow in each hand and fires. Two surviving soldiers chase him into a drain tunnel.

UP ON THE BRIDGE

Willow tries to put out the fire. The Eborsisk sees him. Willow dives over the baby as the Eborsisk blasts flames toward him. The flames are deflected by a gargoyle head nearby.

The Eborsisk turns away to fight the army. Willow sits up, surprised to be alive. As he peers over at the frantic battle, another TROLL grabs him! Willow breaks free and runs, but the troll backs him toward the flames.

INT. DRAIN TUNNEL - MOAT

Madmartigan fires arrows and jumps out of the tunnel near the moat. He sees Willow and climbs toward him.

UP ON THE BRIDGE

Willow waves a burning stick at the troll. Then he digs an acorn out of his pocket, throws, but misses. Then another TROLL pops up.

WILLOW: Madmartigan, help!

Madmartigan throws a broadsword to Willow. Willow lifts the sword over his head and its weight carries him backward. But luckily it clunks a troll behind him. Madmartigan leaps over and kills the first troll.

KAEL: Get him!

Madmartigan runs back into the castle with the minions in hot pursuit, and the battle commences anew. Willow, still at the upper level of the castle, tries to run away from the dragon, but is trapped when the dragon torches the bridge that is the only avenue of escape.

SORSHA: (to her soldiers) The other side!

As the battle rages, the Nockmaar soldiers are more concerned with the dragon than with Madmartigan. Their arrows rain on it, while in turn it snacks on them.

KAEL: Destroy the beast! Find the baby!

Raziel butts a soldier off the ramparts.

RAZIEL: Ba-a-ah! Take tha-a-at!

The Nockmaar soldiers fight with the dragon and with Madmartigan. Willow is confronted by another troll. He tries to throw a magic acorn at the troll but drops it. The acorn falls through a crack in the bridge, turning the planks into stone as it goes. When the troll is momentarily distracted by Elora's crying, Willow pokes it in the backside with a flaming stick and runs past it. But the planks break beneath him. He grabs the troll's legs as he falls, and soon both of them are dangling, saved only by the troll's grip on the broken bridge. Willow climbs to a safe place on the bridge's understructure just before the dragon grabs the troll.

Amidst the chaos, Sorsha stops fighting and starts watching Madmartigan. Up above, Willow tries to break open the door as more trolls close in.

MADMARTIGAN: Willow!

As Sorsha watches, Madmartigan climbs into a catapult, fighting off Nockmaar soldiers as he does so.

WILLOW: Madmartigan, help!

Madmartigan launches himself from the catapult.

MADMARTIGAN: Willoooowww!!

He smacks into the side of the castle and clatters down beside Willow, landing on a troll.

WILLOW: Hit him, Madmartigan!

The troll snarls at Madmartigan. He snarls back, and the troll cringes with fear until Madmartigan kicks it off the bridge.

INT. COURTYARD

As the army battles the Eborsisk, Sorsha sees the statue of the king, her father. Inside the statue, her father appears to move slightly.

KING: Sorsha...?

SORSHA: Father...

KING: Sorsha... I'm alive... help me... help me... helllpp me...

His pleading, muted voice moves her almost to tears. By contrast she sees Kael, driving his own men toward death. She looks up at the bridge.

INT. ARMORY

Willow runs into the armory and sets the baby down in a corner. The six horsemen run in and corner him. He grabs an enormous broadsword. Swings it like a baseball bat. The momentum of the heavy sword hurls Willow across the room. The blade pierces a Nockmaar man. Willow grunts and yanks the sword out. The remaining soldiers come after him. Willow swings and flashes the sword as they close in on him.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN

In the courtyard, Raziel the goat butts a few soldiers as the battle rages.

UP ON THE WALL

Madmartigan stabs a minion and sends him hurtling down the wall. Then he turns around. Five more enemy swordsmen slash at him. Madmartigan is amazing: spinning, lunging, ducking, he takes out one, two, three, four of them with ease. But not the fifth.

It's the Nockmaar Lieutenant. He and Madmartigan swordfight. The Lieutenant hacks the sword out of Madmartigan's hand: it clatters down into the courtyard.

Madmartigan throws up his arm. The Lieutenant's sword clangs against his wrist armor, knocking Madmartigan onto his back. With two hands the Lieutenant lifts his sword high and goes to kill Madmartigan. Madmartigan shuts his eyes. But nothing happens.

Madmartigan opens his eyes. the Lieutenant stands there, frozen, staring at him. Then falls forward. Rolls over Madmartigan. And plummets off the wall. In his place stands Sorsha, holding a bloodied sword.

MADMARTIGAN: Sorsha.

SORSHA: Madmartigan.

He props himself up on his elbows and smiles.

MADMARTIGAN: Whose side are you on?

She reaches down and pulls Madmartigan to his feet.

SORSHA: Yours.

They look into each other's eyes. They go to embrace.

MINION: Arrrggghhh!

Out of nowhere a Nockmaar minion attacks them, his sword flashing over his head. Sorhsa hardly moves. She simply dusts him off the wall with her sword. She turns back to Madmartigan.

SORSHA: I love you.

Their armor clanks as they throw their arms around each other and kiss, high up on the castle wall.

UP ON THE BRIDGE

In his handsome suit of armor, Madmartigan battles attacking minions. From below, the army fires arrows. Some hit the Eborsisk. The angry monster turns to attack Madmartigan and Willow. Madmartigan jumps onto its head and drives his sword through its skull.

As Willow hurries across the bridge, the castle door bursts open. There stand several Nockmaar soldiers, ready to take the baby.

WILLOW: No!!

Willow swings the heavy broadsword. The weight of it takes him with it and he goes hurling down the stairs with the soldiers. When he looks up he sees Kael at the bottom.

INT. COURTYARD

Madmartigan jumps off the Eborsisk's head as its throat fills up with gas, ready to breathe fire. Then the head lifts up, with the sword stuck through it, and it puffs and puffs until it explodes. The surviving head screams in pain.

The Nockmaar Lieutenant sees the dazed Madmartigan. He and his men raise their swords and spears to kill him.

Suddenly they are all cut down! As they fall, Madmartigan looks up. There stands Sorsha! She puts her sword to his throat, then grabs his wrist and pulls him to his feet, into her arms. In the midst of battle they embrace and kiss.

MADMARTIGAN: Here.

He hands Willow a sword, then heaves a sigh and leaps onto one of the dragon's heads. The beast shakes its head violently but can't dislodge Madmartigan.

The locked door that prevented Willow's escape suddenly opens from the inside, and two Nockmaar soldiers emerge. They see Elora immediately.

NOCKMAAR SOLDIER: The baby!

They charge at Willow with swords raised. He countercharges with his own sword, driving them back inside the castle. But the sword is really too heavy for him to manage, and they all collapse in an inglorious heap on the floor. To Willow's horror, Kael rides into the room.

As Sorsha watches, Madmartigan thrusts his sword through the dragon's head, then falls to the ground. Sword in hand, she approaches him. He thinks the end is near, but she pulls him to his feet and kisses him.

The dragon's wounded head whips around frantically, then explodes in a ball of flame. The remaining head crashes to the ground as the beast dies. But the problems of the Nockmaar army aren't over yet.

INT. TIR ASLEEN - COURTYARD

Kael looks up from his horse.

KAEL: Sorsha!!

He sees Sorsha and Madmartigan coming down the wall, fighting Nockmaar troops. Kael holds up his great hand. In it he holds the baby.

KAEL: Bordak!

Kael waves his men after Sorsha and Madmartigan.

KAEL: Kill them both!

He laughs viciously then gallops toward the castle door. As he reaches it he abruptly stops.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN

Two hundred HORSEMEN are charging straight toward Kael. Led by Airk Thaughbaer!

CLOSER, riding in Airk's saddlebags, with their tiny daggers flashing, are the long-lost brownies, Teemo and Rool!

INT. TIR ASLEEN

Kael stuffs the baby deep inside his tunic.

KAEL: Troops! To Nockmaar! Ride with me!

EXT. VALLEY OF TIR ASLEEN

From the canyon maze, two hundred HORSEMEN are charging straight toward Tir Asleen. Led by Airk Thaughbaer!

CLOSER: In Airk's saddlebag WE SEE Franjean and Rool, waving their little swords!

INT. COURTYARD

The drawbridge crashes down across the Eborsisk moat. On horseback, Kael holds Elora Danan above his head.

KAEL: Troops! To Nockmaar! Ride with me!

He sees Madmartigan and Sorsha fighting the Nockmaar soldiers together. Roaring with anger, he stuffs the baby inside his tunic and rides out of the courtyard with his remaining men. Madmartigan and Sorsha mount horses.

NOCKMAAR SOLDIER: Airks' army! Get Kael!

The Galladoorn army is thundering toward the castle of Tir Asleen.

NOCKMAAR SOLDIER: Airk's army!

The brownies are in Airk's saddlebag.

FRANJEAN: We are here!

ROOL: You are rescued!

FRANJEAN & ROOL: Chaaarge!

Kael rides out of the castle, carrying Elora. He sees Madmartigan and Sorsha fighting together against the soldiers of Nockmaar. He rides out with his men to confront Airk's army.

KAEL: No mercy!

EXT. TIR ASLEEN

Kael and his men gallop across the valley of flowers and hack their way through Airk's army.

INT. TIR ASLEEN

Madmartigan and Sorsha mount horses. Willow staggers out of the armory, wounded and bleeding.

WILLOW: I'm sorry. There were too many of them.

Madmartigan scoops him up. With seven surviving knights, they ride out. EXT. TIR ASLEEN

Many of Kael's men fall in battle. But Kael and a dozen horsemen plow through and escape into the cave.

MADMARTIGAN: Willow! Willow!

Willow staggers out of the castle, wounded.

WILLOW: I'm sorry. There were too many of them.

Madmartigan scoops him up. They ride out with Sorsha.

EXT. TIR ASLEEN

Kael and his men skirmish with Airk's army. Kael and four horsemen escape. Madmartigan rides out to Airk Thaughbaer.

Kael fights his way clear and races toward Nockmaar with Elora. The rest of the Nockmaar soldiers fall.

Willow staggers out of the castle with blood running down his face.

WILLOW: Elora!

MADMARTIGAN: Willow!

Willow collapses onto the ground before Madmartigan and Sorsha can reach him.

WILLOW: (sobbing) Elora's gone!

MADMARTIGAN: Willow...

WILLOW: They've taken her. There were too many of them.

MADMARTIGAN: Willow, can you ride?

Willow looks up.

MADMARTIGAN: Let's ride.

Pulling himself together, Willow nods in agreement.

MADMARTIGAN: Airk! Kael's got the baby!

Sorsha rides up. Airk draws his sword and goes to kill her. Madmartigan maneuvers his horse between them.

MADMARTIGAN: Sorsha rides with me.

Airk looks at Sorsha then sheathes his sword. Then, a command from the saddlebag:

FRANJEAN: Warriors!

ROOL: To the canyon!
