The Merchandise/Wearables section
has a new picture of a blue corduroy 'mystery cap' that was probably a
crew cap. Thanks to Matt Dauer for the pic! I've updated the Links section to add this Filmtracks review of the Willow soundtrack. The page includes other sountrack-related information, including an interview with composer James Horner at the bottom of the page. It's been a long time since I added anything to the Sourcebook project, so today I added the chapter on Bavmorda's druids. It turns out that the group had a long history before Bavmorda took over.

There are three new pictures of Willow concept art from the Moebius book
Fusion in
the Art section. As usual with Moebius, the pictures
are interesting and rather strange. Thanks to Shanth for the scans!

There's a wonderful new website on the internet for Willow fans to enjoy!
Behind-the-scenes information is the most interesting aspect of the movie as far
as I'm concerned. And that's what the new link provides, with some great pictures
and explanatory text. The site belongs to a Willow extra named Nick Dooley, who
appeared in scenes at Bavmorda's castle including the pig transformation scene,
although he doesn't have any pictures of that. He did only one night of the pig
scene, because the full head mask freaked him out so he refused to do any more!
This is the only website by a Willow extra on the internet, so click
here for an
entertaining
viewing experience.
Also in this update: the Merchandise/Wearables section has a picture of a mysterious t-shirt that appears to be a licensed product, but I've never seen it before. Thanks to Matt Dauer for the picture.

Have you been patiently (or impatiently) waiting for me to add another chapter
to the Sourcebook? If so, you're in luck,
because today I've added the chapter on Death Dogs. According to the Sourcebook,
Bavmorda is quite a beastmaster. This chapter also explains how it was possible
for the Death Dogs to pass within a few feet of the Nelwyns hiding in the bushes
without even noticing them - apparently the dogs don't have a very good sense of
smell.

Sad news in the world of Willow. According to IMDB, Mark Northover (aka Burglekutt) died of a heart attack in June 2004. He was only 54. I'm really, really sorry to hear this - Burglekutt was one of my favorite characters from the movie (bad guys are often the most entertaining), and Mark seemed like he would be a fun guy to hang out with. I always hoped that Lucasfilm would include him if they ever got around to making a Willow sequel movie or TV series. Now that can never happen. Mark didn't have a very extensive film career, which was a shame because he was obviously talented and I wanted to see him in more than just Willow. We'll miss you, Mark.

The most fascinating Willow news in recent years was the revelation that a
Willow cartoon series was planned back around 1988 but was never put into
production. This news became public when 30 character sketches were sold in a
series of Ebay auctions in 2006. The auction listing included pictures of some
of the sketches, which I copied and posted on the webpage last year.
The winner of the auctions was Joe Frese, webmaster of The Big, Big Willow/Shadow Moon Homepage. Joe graciously provided me with copies of all thirty sketches, and the complete set is now on view in the Cartoon Art section. Thank you very very much, Joe! The new additions shed new light on what the series would have been like. Bavmorda is still around somehow, and there's an unidentified villain who looks like General Kael in ghost form. If the number of sketches devoted to each character is any indication, it looks as though the primary focus was on Willow and Elora. Enjoy!

There's another addition to the list of Willow pop culture references, in the form of a quirky little song called Willow Don't Cry written by Leslie Hall of Leslie & the Lys for her second album Door Man's Daughter. The song has its own website here where you can listen to the music and watch a rather hilarious 5-minute video (of which the first two minutes are not directly related to Willow). The playback is kind of rough with numerous small glitches, but it's fun. The website includes behind the scenes information and other small extras. You can read about other Willow tributes here. I've added a couple of photos that were used for ILM work to the Art section.

Has the February weather left you feeling cold? Maybe reading about fire-breathing dragons would help you warm up. The latest addition to the Sourcebook project is a chapter on the Eborsisk. I've also added two new pictures of the Willow crew cap to the Merchandise/Wearables section.

Here's a bit of "Willow in pop culture" trivia for the first update of the year. There's a Chicago metal band called Bavmorda, and you can visit their website and hear samples of their music here. I'd previously reported on metal band Kane Hodder, which has some Willow references in their music. You can read the lyrics to their Attack on Tir Asleen song here. Not recommended for the squeamish! Thanks to Britton for the tip on both bands. Willow movie posters tend to be basically the same throughout the world, with an American style and an everywhere-else style. But there are a few exceptions and the posters in Poland are one of them, with unique styles by Wieslaw Walkuski. Another one of his designs has been added to the Merchandise/Posters section, although it isn't as wildly original as the one that was already displayed there.
