MERCHANDISE - WEARABLES

Crew Wear

There were at least two different versions of the crew jacket. The type that I've labelled Jacket 1 in the pictures below had white sleeves and black cuffs. The Jacket 1 Front has a black body while the Jacket 1 Back looks like it has a dark blue body. These pictures were borrowed from two different auctions on Ebay, and I don't know if the color differences are real or if the colors are off in one of the pics. Assuming that both pictures are of the same style of jacket, this version has a snap front with an embroidered logo on both front and back.

I have more information on Jacket 2, which is a UK crew jacket that I bought on Ebay. The jacket is made of quality material: it's down-filled nylon with knit cuffs, and has an embroidered logo on the front and back. The jacket was owned by a member of the crew who worked in the art department on sets and props. It has a little beige paint on one of the sleeves, but I don't know if that happened on the job or came from something more mundane like painting a house. The jacket is black with a bright orange lining. It has a zippered front, with two snap-close pockets on the outside and another two on the inside.

The jacket arrived with an unexpected bonus in the form of a Willow baseball cap; presumably this was also crew wear. There's no tag indicating the material, but it appears to be made of burgundy-colored wool. This makes it quite different from the mass-distribution blue baseball cap (shown further down the page), which is made of cotton. In 2006 a similar cap was advertised on Ebay as a crew cap. There was also ablue corduroy cap with a stitched logo. It's origin is a mystery, but I'm guessing that it was also a crew cap.

Jacket 3 is yet another variation; it doesn't include the word 'crew' with the logo. It's a size medium jacket made of black wool with white leather sleeves and measures 44" across the chest with front snap button closures. The jacket is lined and has a stretch waistband and sleeves. According to the Ebay auction where it was sold, the inside of this particular jacket was embroidered with the initials R.B. and a date of 11-23-88. I have no idea who that could be... probably a crew member!

Other Jackets

Unlike the jackets shown above, the jacket shown in this section was apparently NOT intended for the crew. It appears to be a promotional jacket that was produced for the Australian video release of the movie. I have no information on how it was distributed.

T-Shirts

Four Color-Me-Tees were produced. These 50/50 T-shirts came with four non-toxic markers, which could be used to color in the characters. (The color washed out in the washing machine.)

They featured Willow, Madmartigan, Sorsha, and General Kael, and were available in children's sizes. Thanks to Joe Frese for the info.

A black t-shirt with a variation of the poster art on the front was offered on eBay in 2002. It was advertised as being vintage (1988), but I haven't seen any evidence to back that up. In fact, I get the impression that all t-shirts showing the Willow poster art are bootleg, whether it's the US or international version of the poster.

This mysterious item is not one of the color-me tees, but it does appear to be a licensed item since it says copyright Lucasfilm on it. This t-shirt was made by a company called Weekend INT but nothing else is known about it.

The T-shirts below are rare items that I've seen only once each on eBay. The brown T-shirt was reportedly distributed to cast and crew at the end of production. Truth or fiction? I can't tell! The yellow variation didn't make any particular claims about its origins, but the white version said it was a crew shirt.

For a time, the sweatshirt shown below was available for purchase through The Prop Store of London. According to the seller, "This garment was worn on the set and has been in storage ever since." Thanks to Jason G. for the information.

Caps

Dorfman/Pacific produced a painters-style, one-size-fits-all cap printed in six colors. It displayed Willow on two sides and the top and the Willow logo across the front. Thanks to Joe Frese for the info!

At least one style of baseball cap was produced. It was solid-colored with the Willow logo embroidered on the front.

Belts and Suspenders

Lee Co. produced a kids' striped cloth belt with a plastic buckle in at least three color variations. They also made a kids' leather belt with a repeating colored design on the front featuring the Willow logo and pictures of Willow, Kael, the High Alwin, Bavmorda and Madmartigan. Lee also produced a pair of kids' suspenders with adjustable dark blue cloth straps and a picture of Willow on leatherette.

Buttons (Pinbacks)

One Stop Posters created six 1 3/4 inch full-color buttons featuring Willow, Madmartigan, Sorsha, General Kael, the High Aldwin, and Willow and his family. These buttons were licensed, but that's not always the case. For some really obvious bootlegging, check out the last picture. Two of the buttons include artwork from the DVD cover!

Halloween Costume

Ben Cooper produced this Willow Halloween costume. Gotta love those cheaply made rubber bands that always snapped as soon as you put the mask on, eh? There is disagreement on which of the boxes pictured below is the correct one for the costume, and it's likely that all of them are legit.
