James Horner composed
and conducted the sweeping score from the film, and Virgin Records released
it on audiocassette and compact disc. Since the music runs throughout most
of the film, Virgin couldn't possibly fit it all onto one CD, and so they
trimmed it down for release; The CD is now only available as an import,
and can be ordered through online sellers such as Amazon.com.
The primary American release of the soundtrack on CD featured a slightly different image: the 'Willow' logo on the disc itself was originally displayed in its promotional title font, whereas the later import version has it written in a generic sans-serif font. However, another version of this disc has been discovered. At first sight it appears to be identical to the primary American release, but a closer look reveals different text placement, as well as what appears to be a different version of the Virgin logo. The soundtrack was also released on Cassette Tape and Vinyl. These are out of print. A promotional cassette tape was also issued, with a green and orange and insert that read "For promotional use only - not for sale" on the back. |

The Story of Willow
Buena Vista Records distributed this album on vinyl, cassette, and CD. The narration (by Roy Dotrice from Picket Fences) was complemented by James Horner's rousing score and snippets of dialogue from the film. The album accompanied a 16-page full color companion booklet. As a bonus, the last four tracks of the album were comprised of behind-the-scenes interviews with Warwick Davis, George Lucas, Ron Howard, and Dennis Muren. Some of these interviews are available in the Multimedia section in MP3 format.

Willow Read-Along
Buena-Vista also produced this 24-page read-along book and cassette set, which was obviously created for younger children. The reader does all the narration and voices (this man doing Mims' voice is a must-hear!). There are a few slight details that differ from the final film version (the narrator states that one of Raziel's transformation states is a deer), but overall a fun listen. The tape is very short, and is duplicated on the other side. The book has some beautiful pictures, and the tape reads word-for-word the text on each page for children to follow. A chime plays when it's time to turn the page. To listen to the entire audio presentation in RealAudio format or download the audiovisual version created by Joey Chivers of the Read-Along Adventures webpage, go to the Multimedia section.
