| ENCYCLOPEDIA |
| THE PEOPLE | Here is a list of characters that reside in the World of Willow. Each name is followed by a short description of who that person is and/or significant things they may have done.
Given the wide variety of characters in Willow, the usual definition of "people" is not sufficient for the purposes of this page. The definition used here is an individual or group capable of expressing complex thoughts through speech or telepathy. Living creatures without this level of intelligence are included in the Things section of the Encyclopedia. In cases where a living creature can speak but seems to have limited intelligence, e.g. firedrakes, the section placement is determined by whether its overall behavior seems to be more human or animalistic. Animals with individual names may be listed here. The sources for these listings are:
NOTE ON SPOILERS: While an encyclopedia listing is bound to reveal many plot elements from the Saga, an attempt has been made to avoid major revelations from the Shadow War books. NOTE ON PRONUNCIATIONS: Many entries have a pronunciation guide (in parentheses) following the name, for those of you wondering how to say these strange names. Most of them are very obvious, or have been officially stated, either in the movie or in an audiobook recording of the novel. NOTE ON ALPHABETIZING: Characters with a first and last name are listed according to the first letter of their first name. In most cases, this will make the character easier to find. In those rare cases where a first name has been revealed but is rarely used, the character is listed according to the first letter of the last name, with the full name given afterward in parentheses. People with royal or noble titles are listed according to first name, but their title may precede the name in brackets. NOTE ON APOCRYPHAL INFORMATION: Although the movie credits, movie novelization and sourcebook refer to the character as The High Aldwin, the novels refer to him as The High Aldwyn, with a 'y' instead of an 'i'. Since the novels are the newer work and were co-written by George Lucas himself, they appear to best reflect his current vision of the Willow world. Therefore, the "Aldwyn" spelling is used here. Information from the sourcebook or novelization which is not also confirmed in the film or the novels appears in this Maroon font, and is to be taken with a grain of salt. Since the publication of Shadow Star, many VERY important details have been contradicted. And, once again, since the Shadow War books are the newer work, all contradicted material remains in the maroon font. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: A big THANK YOU! out to Joe Frese for the original concept idea (and a few of the entries themselves) on his Big Big Willow/Shadow Moon Homepage's 'Encyclopedia' section. |
