CUT SCENES

Rool's Bad Habit

According to the novelization, this scene occurs at night immediately after Cherlindrea disappears. In the junior novelization, it happens in the morning just before Willow tells Meegosh it's time to go home. In the graphic novel, the time is less specific; it's sometime between Willow's conversation with Cherlindrea and his conversation with Meegosh. Rool sprinkles some Dust of Broken Heart on a sleeping fairy, who then falls in love with either Rool or Franjean, depending on which source you're reading.

This scene was most likely cut because it simply wasn't necessary. All the sources also include the dust incident where Rool falls in love with a cat, which is a much more effective and entertaining demonstration of the dangers of fairy dust. There's no need to establish that Rool is a habitual prankster; he doesn't play any other pranks during the movie, and when Madmartigan gets dusted it's by Franjean.

CHERLINDREA: I cannot make you go, Willow. The choice is yours.

EXT. WOODS - DAWN

All is quiet. The tiny brownie fires have burned down. Rool creeps along mischievously, carrying a sack of glittering dust. He sprinkles some dust in the eyes of a sleeping FAIRY. Franjean catches him.

FRANJEAN: Where'd you steal that Dust of Broken Heart?

ROOL: Nowhere. I was just having fun.

FRANJEAN: It belongs to the fairies! It's dangerous. Give that to me.

Franjean tugs it away, sends Rool tumbling, and hooks the sack on his belt. Just then, the fairy wakes up, rubs her eyes, sees Franjean and breaks into a lovesick grin. She attacks him with a barrage of kisses.

FRANJEAN: Get away! Help! Throw water on her!

Willow's feet come into frame as he creeps up to Meegosh, fixed with a new purpose, and whispers.

WILLOW: Wake up, Meegosh. It's time to go home.

Novelization Excerpt

As Cherlindrea faded, so did the sparkling light of the fairies. It flowed like mercury in all directions back into the forest, together with the tinkling of their laughter, and Willow found himself alone with Elora in the center of a moonlit glade, surrounded by murmuring brownies.

Only one fairy remained, asleep under a drooping leaf. The large-eared brownie who had spoken to Willow earlier crept over and sprinkled silvery dust on her out of a tiny pouch.

"Rool!" Franjean said, bustling up, "where did you get that Dust of Broken Heart?"

"Found it! There!" He pointed to a hollow tree. "Uh, I mean there!" He pointed to a little cave at the edge of the glade.

"Stole it, you mean! Give it to me!" Franjean snatched at the pouch and tied it to his belt just as the fairy awoke, staring at him adoringly. Arms stretched to embrace him, she fluttered up to him, murmuring endearments.

"No!" Franjean squeaked. "Back! Help! Get her away!"

Cackling, one of the brownies doused her with water from a pitcher plant, and the little fairy fled muttering into the woods, her ardor cooled.

The incident caused much merriment at Franjean's expense. The brownies chortled and punched each other, pointing at him. With as much dignity as he could muster, he bowed to Willow. "Peck, I mean, Sire, I am to be your guide to the Lake of Fin Raziel."

Junior Novelization Excerpt

The dawn of a new day crept silently into the forest. The brownie fires had burned low when Rool tiptoed through the trees, carrying a sack of glittering dust. He sprinkled some of the dust onto the lovely eyes of a sleeping fairy, just as Franjean came up behind him.

"Where'd you steal that Dust of Broken Heart?" Franjean demanded.

"Nowhere." Rool shrugged guiltily. "I was just having fun."

"It belongs to the fairies!" Franjean snapped. "It's dangerous! Give that to me." He tugged at the sack, sent Rool tumbling, and hooked it onto his own belt. The sleeping fairy stirred at the noise and sat up, rubbing her eyes. Seeing Franjean standing in front of her, she gave him a lovelorn grin, leaped up, and smothered him in a barrage of kisses.

"Get away! Help!" Franjean bellowed. "Throw water on her!"

Willow stepped past the thrashing brownies to Meegosh's side and whispered, "Wake up, Meegosh. It's time to go home."
