Leprechaun Props

Leprechaun 1
Mask

This stunt mask is actually part of a costume rather than a prop. Warwick Davis undergoes a lengthy makeup process before he goes on-camera as the Leprechaun, but that's not appropriate for his stunt double. It takes an hour to remove the makeup, and the stunt person needs an easily removable mask in case of injury while the stunt is being performed. The pictures below give a front and side view of the mask, plus the January 1992 date inscribed inside the mask. It's signed 'Slam,' which is Gabe Bartalos' alter ego.

I don't know which scenes this mask was worn in, or by whom. But the primary Leprechaun stunt doubles in the first movie were Tony Cox, who handed out chocolate coins in Leprechaun 2 and also appeared in Willow and Me, Myself & Irene, and Deep Roy. Roy attempted to perform the scene where the Leprechaun smashes the windshield of the heroes' truck, but broke his hand doing the stunt. Warwick ended up breaking the windshield himself, which is described in the Fangoria article about the movie.

This mask was sold to the highest bidder on eBay in December 2001. My plan called for the highest bidder to be me, but unfortunately it didn't work out that way.

Hands

Lep ?? hands Lep 6 hands
The Leprechaun hands at left were offered on eBay in August 2003, along with a Leprechaun stunt mask in the same auction. It's not clear which movie the hands are from; in fact, it's hard to tell how authentic they are, but they look reasonably convincing to me. They look like they might be thinner material than the ones used on Lep 6 and there are other differences, but the pictures demonstrate that overall they look fairly similar. This particular pair clearly wasn't used onscreen since some of the fingers are still joined together.

Leprechaun 2
Mask

This stunt mask was used on-camera in both Leprechaun 2 and 3 by stunt Lep Arturo Gil, and was also used by others during lighting setups. Afterwards, for about ten years it belonged to Dave Tripet, the executive in charge of production on the first three movies. His daughter wore it to a school Halloween party and won first prize. This stunt mask currently belongs to me!

The mask is made of a special latex and is heavier than your typical Halloween mask. It has a slit up the back to make it easy to put on and take off. The eyeholes aren't naturally that dark; I put a piece of black felt inside because I thought it looked cool that way. Warwick and Art shared a wig during filmmaking, so there's no hair to go with it; however, there are some very slight remnants of beard along the jawline.

If you compare this mask to the Lep 1 stunt mask above, you'll notice a striking resemblance. The stunt masks that I saw while visiting the Lep 6 set also looked similar; over the years these masks haven't changed much, if at all. They're all made by Gabe Bartalos. A variation of the mask was even used at the Cannes Film Festival. Thanks to Dave Tripet for most of this information!

Car Sign

This Darkside Tours sign was attached to the top of the hearse that Cody and Morty used in their business. It's 42 inches long and 24 inches high including the wrought iron spikes. It can be lit up from inside, and screws were used to attach it to the top of the car.

The sign was put up for auction on eBay in late February 2002. Thanks to Tiana for the information!

Leprechaun 3 and Leprechaun 4

Sorry, I don't have any prop information for Leprechaun 3 and 4; however, the stunt mask shown above in the Lep 2 section was also used in Lep 3.

Leprechaun 5
Book

This book was created by Property Master Bill Davis of Tactical Edge Group. The heroes used it to determine that they needed to hit the Leprechaun with essence of four-leaf clover. Mr. Davis kindly provided me with the scan prior to the release of the movie.

Gold Records

These gold record props appeared on the wall of Mack Daddy's office and were sold to the highest bidder on eBay in June 2001.

Leprechaun Back 2 Tha Hood

Sorry, I don't have any prop pictures for this movie other than the hands shown near the top of this page.
